Tirzepatide is an antidiabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and for weight loss.

Tirzepatide is administered via subcutaneous injections. It is sold under the brand names Mounjaro for diabetes treatment, and Zepbound for weight loss.

Is Mounjaro effective?

Clinical trials for this injection have shown that it is an effective weight loss option for adults who are obese or overweight, with some weight-related health issues. The clinical trials showed that patients who took this slimming injections lost more weight than those who took the placebo.

People who took the injection had an average weight loss of 15 – 20% than the 2 – 3% of those on the placebo. However, the results may vary depending on individual factors like lifestyle, commitment to treatment and starting weight.

How to use Mounjaro?

This is a prescription medication administered through subcutaneous injection once weekly. It should be administered on the same day weekly and preferably at the same time. This weight loss medication is available in a pre-filled injection pen.

Treatment requires gradually increasing your dose monthly. Starting with a low dosage of this injection, you will gradually increase your dose over five months until you achieve your desired effect or the side effects become intolerable. You will have regular reviews with your prescribing doctor and will be able to ask any questions along the way should you need.

Patients starting this injection and not transitioning from Saxenda will start with a weekly dose of 2.5mg for four weeks. After the first four weeks, patients can increase to the next dose.

"I started using Mounjaro (tirzepatide) in July 2022 and weighed 206 lbs. 63 years old and 5'3. It is now March 2023 and I now weigh 130 lbs. The Mounjaro eliminated the desire to eat.
